Space Science and Technology was formalized at the National Autonomous University of Mexico when the Department of the Outer Space was created in 1962 at the Geophysics Institute. Since then, space related topics have been studied at our University whether in science, technology, and even human studies and social sciences. Throughout these years, some institutional efforts were done like the Space Research and Development Program and the University Space Network.
These brought benefits for space science research groups, as well as a growing interest in space sciences at our university and community; research proposals among UNAM and other universities were promoted. Following these, the University Space Program (PEU) was created on July 24, 2017; with the aim to link up space science and technology activities and to develop a space culture at UNAM.
